Out With My Dreams and in With My Goals!

“A Goal Without a Plan is Just a Dream.” Author Unknown

I have always loved the beginning of a New Year….new beginnings, reminiscing and hope! I must admit, I’ve never been a huge fan of resolutions but I do believe in setting goals for myself. Last year was the first time I had actually taken the time to write them down (and put them out there for the world to see) and I have to say, it was ok….I survived! Read the rest of this entry »

Jennifer’s Year in Review: 2011

It can be fun and rewarding to reflect back on how far you’ve come or how much you’ve done in a year. What’s the point of those big wins in life if you’re not going to remember and celebrate them anyway, right? Now that I’m trying to think back to all that has happened and all of my accomplishments over this past year, I’m finding it a little difficult. I sure wish I had kept a journal or notebook of sorts with all of my achievements, big and small over the past year. This is definitely on my list of things to keep up with in 2012.

A Year in Review: My 5 R’s for a Successful New Year!

Well it’s that time of year again, a time for Reflection, Rejuvenation, Recharging, Re-focusing and Recommitting to new and previously set goals. I guess you could call it my 5 R’s for a successful new year! Beyond a New Year’s resolution, I like to take it a step further and set several goals for myself for the new year but before I do that, it’s important for me to take a step back and review 2011. Gingerbread House Decorating Contest ….Who’s In?

I can’t think of a better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to decorate a Gingerbread House with your family! It has been quite a while since I’ve decorated one of these!! And to be honest this wasn’t on my list of things to do this holiday season, but I’m sure glad my Design Blogger friend Stacy Naquin decided to host a Gingerbread House decorating contest for Designers and Bloggers (and any other creative types that want to participate of course). The more the merrier!!

My Top 10 Takeaways from Tobi Fairley’s Design Camp: Day 10 (Knowledge is Power)

“It is what we think we know already that often prevents us from learning.”~ Claude Bernard

Day #10 – Knowledge is Power: The most important thing my Design Camp experience has reiterated for me is that learning and knowledge are power. We should all keep an open mind, keep learning, and growing in whatever field or stage of life we’re in. So in wrapping up this Blog series, what better way to do that by mentioning some of the great reading resources we all talked about at Design Camp. As you may or may not know, I truly enjoy learning new things, traveling a bit and experiencing new adventures. So it was perfect for me to come back to Atlanta with a whole list of books to add to my never ending reading list. Who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy a couple of these yourself. My Top 10 Takeaways from Tobi Fairley’s Design Camp: Day 8 (Over Decorating is O-V-E-R!)

“It is just as disastrous to have the wrong accessories in your room as it is to wear sport shoes with an evening dress.” – Dorothy Draper

And let’s just take this quote a step further and bring it into our homes, I say not only the wrong accessories but too many accessories in a room can also be disastrous. Have you ever been in someone’s home that has every square inch of wall space is covered….not a spare place to rest your eye in the house. Where do you focus…what’s the focal point? Or maybe you’ve been someplace where every table top is covered with knick-knacks….no place to set a drink. Read the rest of this entry »

My Top 10 Reasons Why Homeowners Should Hire Interior Designers

Even though last was a very busy week for me, I made sure I did not miss a fantastic keynote presentation at the Atlanta Decorative Arts Center (ADAC) featuring Valerie Moran. I was able to squeeze it in between furniture installs, client meetings, a huge rug manufacturing issue and did I mention the exorbitant amount of time its taking to get my new website off the ground (more about that later as we’re hoping to officially launch it by the first of the year). Christmas Decor: Traditionalist vs. Modernist

Which side of the fence are you on when it comes to your Christmas decor? Are you a true traditionalist when it comes to decorating for the holidays or do you like to mix things up a bit? Do you decorate your home using the traditional red and green or does your holiday decor coordinate with your existing everyday home furnishings? Are you convinced that red and green are the only way to go for Christmas decorating? Whether you’re a traditionalist or modernist you are sure to enjoy reading a post written a while back by Maria Killam over at Colour Me Happy, “Why are Red & Green the Colours of Christmas?”!! I tend to lean toward coordinating my Christmas and holiday decorations to my homes interior color scheme. But either way makes me happy!! Read the rest of this entry »

My Fabulous Blogging Experience to Date

To say that I’m a blogger may be quite an exaggeration. You see, I’m an Atlanta Interior Designer first and because I love to write (not saying I’m great at it), share my experiences, teach and learn I sort of fell into this wonderful blogging world accidentally. I officially began this Blog back in 2009 and it has changed and evolved more times than I care to mention. It has taken me quite some time to truly get the hang of this and figure out exactly what I’m trying to say. I’ve changed the name a couple of times and who knows this may not be the last:)…I’ll just have to play that by ear. I’m happiest when I’m just being me and writing about what makes me  happy and hey if other people enjoy reading it, than that is just a huge bonus…..and I’m grateful!! I truly appreciate my followers and readers and cherish every note and comment….it means the world to me! Read the rest of this entry »
