My Top Tips for EASY Holiday Decorating

Happy Holiday Season everyone! I absolutely love this time of year….all of the decorating, the smells, and spending more time with family and friends! I’m hoping to take a bit more time off this year to spend with my kids and family….that’s the plan and I cannot wait!

Happy Holidays 2012

We all know how busy this time of year can be and how much time and work can go into Holiday decorating. I thought I would take a minute to share a couple of my favorite tips to make it a little easier and less stressful during this sometimes hectic time of year!

I love it when my home is decorated for the season but sometimes it’s hard to find the time and energy when we all have so much going on. Here are three of my top Holiday Decorating Tips below:

Tip #1: Use What You Already Have

If you already decorate with Ginger Jars than just tie a pretty ribbon around the top. Or if you have beautiful apothecary jars sitting around try filling them with holiday ornaments or candy. You can tuck fresh greenery into existing arrangements or vases. Try adding to the décor you already have in place. Less moving and packing up means less work!

Tip #2: Don’t Un-decorate to Decorate for the Holidays

Instead of removing all of your bookcase accents and décor, add to them or modify what is already there. One of my favorite things to do is to wrap my existing books with trendy holiday gift wrap. This will instantly transform your current bookcases into a festive feast for the eyes! When the seasons over it’s so easy to just unwrap your books until next year!

Tip #3: Use Olioboard to Plan your Holiday Decorating

If you have never heard of Olioboard, now might just be the perfect time to check it out. I love it for so many reasons, but particularly I love it for “PLANNING”. Don’t wait until the holiday hustle and bustle to figure out where your Christmas tree or holiday décor will go. Try to remember to plan ahead and think about these things while your designing your space or home (even in the middle of July).

Let’s use my Living Room as an example. I am currently planning and redecorating my home. Take a look at how I’ve used Olioboard to “POP” in my Holiday décor and decorations with just a couple of clicks!

Anyone can use OLIOBOARD.COM to do this. It’s so easy to use and it’s FR*EE. You can create your own account HERE and give it a try. You can also follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube for great how-to’s, and they have a fabulous Blog too! It is a fantastic community of designer, decorators, and enthusiasts alike. If you need decorating inspiration, it’s a great place to look! There are endless possibilities with Olioboard, I hope you’ll give it a try if you haven’t already!

Olioboard Oliohop HolidayStyle

All I’m doing this year is hanging Martha Stewart berry wreaths on my mirrored folding screens found here, swapping out a few toss pillows and tucking my tree in a corner that stays empty the other 11 months of the year. A bar cart is another great addition that you can add to your décor during the holiday season or keep it out year round.

This month I am participating in OLIOBOARD’S monthly #Oliohop and the theme this month is #HolidayStyle. Me and 9 other designers, bloggers and design enthusiasts are all sharing our best in Holiday Style on each of our blogs today. It’s a great way to get into the holiday spirit, share tips and ideas and just have fun!

If you have a little time today, I highly suggest that you check out the list of participants below. I can’t hardly wait to spend a few minutes visiting each blog and getting even more into the holiday spirit while I sip my morning coffee…..{{clink}} This is a perfect way to start off your week and continue your holiday and decorating festivies.

I sure hope you’ll join us and #OLIOhop on over to all of the participating blogs below. And please don’t forget to leave me a comment and let me know how you plan to make decorating easier for the holidays this year! Come back and share the Olioboard’s that you create as well, I’d love to see them!

    Good morning dear Jennifer!

This is so so so pretty and made even better by the fact that you used your own home to demonstrate how to use Olioboard to plan your holiday decorating scheme.

As a member of Olioboard’s team, Jennifer, I want to say thank you for showcasing (not only in this month’s hop but throughout this year ) how you use Olioboard in your beautiful design work to help your clients visualize what’s possible.

Now, for me, personally — it’s just pure fun to witness how you’ve added HOLIDAY STYLE to your own home with just a few extra touches –but what a difference they make! I especially like how you’ve added the wreaths in front of the mirrored screens. I love that!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas, Jennifer, and thank you for creating such a beautiful post for today’s hop.

Warmest Wishes for a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year!

How smart was it for you to use your own house. I love that. I also love tip “Don’t Undecorate to Decorate” Can I quote you on that one? This is such a great post. I’ll be back. There’s so much to learn here!

Great tips Jennifer! I love your before and after Olioboard. One good tip I found to pass along is to not drag everything Christmas out and feel it has to be used. Edit and save only your favorites.

It really has been a holiday gift to read each of the blogs of the #oliohop participants. Jennifer, first, I’ve got to tell you that your existing space is just beautiful. I hope that your readers will view and become more willing to infuse their own spaces with color as you have. And, what a clever idea to create book covers out of holiday wrap. It’s an inexpensive and custom look. Thanks for sharing the holiday spirit. Enjoy your much deserved time off with family and friends. Happy Holidays, Andie xo
