Tips for a Successful Red White and Blue Interior Color Palette

Happy 4th of July everyone! I hope you’re taking this day to spend time with your family and friends…all of the people that matter most in your life. I know I sure am! Our profession pretty much shuts down for a few days around the 4th so I don’t have a choice. There will be no phone calls, no deliveries and no installs. I am forced to stop, reflect and rejuvenate. Ahhhhh…..

In celebration of this glorious holiday, I found it most fitting to take a look at successful Red, White and Blue interiors. Below I share my favorite tips for creating a successful space using this timeless palette. These interiors don’t always have to scream nautical, all American or Country Cottage. They can be chic, sophisticated spaces that highlight our nations colors in a proud yet discreet sort of way.

Tip #1: Add White (and lots of it)

Allow white to be the main act in the show. White is crisp and clean and a perfect backdrop for red and blue accents and décor. This is one of the easiest ways to use Red, White and Blue successfully in any room.

Tip #2: Hue Adjustment

Who says you have to use Navy Blue and Fire Engine Red as your blue and red finishes in your space? Why not go for something a little different and mix things up. For instance how about periwinkle as your blue or coral as your red. The options are endless…get creative!

Tip #3: Forget Balance

Do not use equal amounts of Red and Blue in your space. Pick one (preferably your favorite one) and let it be the dominate color in the room. For example, if you like blue then use blue as your overall statement color in the room than add small touches of red as an accent here and there.

And there you have it….my simple, easy tips for successfully designing any space with Red, White and Blue. What are your favorite ways to use this dramatic color scheme? Where could you see it best used in your home?
